Employer F.A.Q.
Is live in nanny care only for the wealthy?
The cost of a live-in nanny is often equivalent to, or less than the cost of having two children in daycare. Our nannies provide excellent one-on-one care to your child or children, light housekeeping and assist in meal preparation. But the most outstanding benefit of having a live-in nanny, according to our employers, is that you can go to work knowing that your child is in dependable and caring hands without having to do the "daycare run". This is the daily stress involved of having to run to, and from, daycare centers to meet stringent pick-up/drop-off times.
Senior live-in care is an affordable option as most provinces offer financial assistance. Live in care is a positive and rewarding experience for seniors as statistics show that most would rather live at home in familiar surroundings with the family rather than go to a nursing home.
If I have live in childcare, how will my child or children socialize with other children?
Obviously your child or children won't be exposed to large groups of children as they would in daycare, but having said that, they also will not be exposed to germs and illnesses that often spread in large groups of children. Having the nanny understand your requirements, having the nanny take your child or children on regular trips to the park and having the nanny and your child or children involved in programs will all ensure that your child or children will receive the necessary socialization with other children. This is also very important for bonding and trust between the your child or children and the nanny.
Is hiring a foreign live-in nanny or caregiver very complicated?
Not at all, as we will look after all the details. We will assist you in finding the perfect fit for your family. We will provide help and support through out the entire process and beyond. There is never a charge or fee for our service.
If I hire a live-in nanny or caregiver and find I'm not happy with the situation, do I have to stay in the relationship?
There shouldn't be any fear that you may feel trapped in your situation with your caregiver because you signed an employment contract with them or you don't have a replacement for them. If your caregiver isn't meeting your expectations you can terminate your employment relationship with them at any time for just cause. We offer a trial period for all caregivers placed by us. If you find, after your best efforts, that you and your caregiver are incompatible, we will replace them at no charge, during the trial period, for a more appropriate caregiver, of your choosing, from abroad.
Am I responsible if my caregiver becomes sick, has an accident, is hospitalized or needs home recovery?
Your caregiver is entitled to sick leave as specified in provincial or territorial legislation. Do not force your caregiver to work if he or she is ill. Your caregiver should be covered under the required health or workers' compensation plan of the province or territory of work. Your responsibility would depend on the coverage provided under these plans. Your caregiver may also be eligible to collect Employment Insurance sickness benefits.
How long does it take for a caregiver to arrive in my home after I have hired one?
This is always a difficult question. The short answer would be "It depends". If the caregiver's location is local or national, a few days to two weeks would be needed. If they are coming from overseas, several weeks to months would be needed due to the immigration process. This is why it is always advisable to prepare for your needs as far in advance as possible.
