WHO WE ARE
Canada Atlantic Live In Care is a consulting and in home placement agency specializing in providing quality home care solutions and support for Canadian families. The live in caregivers are foreign trained professionals who are interested in relocating temporary or permanently to Canada. Our goal is to help and locate professionally qualified and experienced caregivers to work with Canadian families.
OUR OFFERING
We offer a free detailed online database of potential caregivers profiles, Child Care, Senior Care And Disabled, for viewing at your convenience. The caregivers are individuals who are qualified to work without supervision in a private household providing care for babies, toddlers, older children, elderly persons or people who have disabilities. All of the live in caregivers are screened and have background checks before entering Canada for your added safety and peace of mind. Please fill in the nanny or senior application forms if you would like to hire one of the live in caregivers or would like some help with choosing one. Please contact us to ask about our very affordable fee.
ADVANTAGES OF HAVING A SENIOR CAREGIVER OR NANNY
There are many advantages to having a Live-in Caregiver or Nanny, such as:
- More flexible scheduling!
- No waiting for a late caregiver to arrive (think about winter, traffic and transit schedules)!
- Less cost per hour than a live-out ($8-$10 per hour vs. $12-$14 and more per hour)!
- Less transfer of sickness (colds, flu's, etc.)!
- Income tax credits/deductions!
- Can deduct room and board!
- Improved trust and family bonds in the home!
- More controlled and safe environment for children and seniors!
- Minimum care in a nursing facility vs. total care for the senior at home!
- Improved quality of life for seniors as they are more comfortable at home in familiar surroundings!
- Built-in sitter (many live-in's can make themselves available)!
- And (in most cases) all this for less than the cost of full-time day care for two or more children!
HIRING PROCESS
After viewing the caregivers' profile and having found the right candidate for your family, please contact us for more information and to arrange for a telephone interview. When a caregiver is found to your satisfaction, the hiring process can start. We will prepare, process and distrubute all the necessay documention to bring your chosen nanny or senior caregiver to your home. This process could take several weeks to months, or less, depending on the country of origin.
EMPLOYER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO A LIVE-IN CAREGIVER
You must provide acceptable working conditions, reasonable duties and fair market wages. You must also provide accommodation that ensures privacy, such as a private room with a lock on the door. Your caregiver pays rent for a room in your home and is entitled to privacy. You should not enter the caregiver's room without permission. You should provide your employee with a key to the house to ensure freedom of access. Your house is your employee's home as well as his or her place of work. You should respect the caregiver's cultural or religious practices and discuss his or her needs. A live-in caregiver is protected by employment standards legislation in most provinces and territories. Live-in employees are entitled to days off each week, statutory holidays, extra pay for overtime work and a salary that is consistent with the provincial wage rate of the employment.
**IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE LIVE IN CARE PROGRAM**
Effective April 1, 2010, all employers applying for a Labour Market Opinion under the Live-in Caregiver Program and wishing to hire foreign live-in caregivers must meet the following requirements:
Health Insurance
Employers of foreign live-in caregivers are now responsible for paying for their caregiver's health insurance at no cost to the caregiver until he/she becomes eligible for provincial health coverage. Employers are not permitted to recoup these costs from live-in caregivers.
Workplace Safety
Employers of foreign live-in caregivers are now required to enrol their caregivers in provincial workplace safety insurance (also known as worker's compensation) or comparable insurance if the former is not available. This must be done at no cost to the caregiver. Employers are not permitted to recoup these costs from live-in caregivers.
Recruitment and Third Party Fees
Employers who wish to use a recruitment agency or third party agency to hire a foreign live-in caregiver must pay for all the services provided by the agency or third party, and must pay all fees and costs associated with such a recruitment or third party agency. Employers are not permitted to recoup recruitment fees or other costs associated with the use of such an agency or third party from the caregivers.
Transportation Costs
Employers of foreign live-in caregivers are required to pay the transportation costs for bringing their caregivers to Canada. In the instance where foreign caregivers are already in Canada, employers are responsible for paying to relocate them to the location of work (where caregiving will take place) at no cost to the caregiver.
Mandatory Employment Contract
The employment contract must include the following mandatory clauses:
- Duration of the contract
- Duties of the position
- Hours of work (including wages, overtime, holidays, and sick leave)
- Accommodation arrangements, as per provincial and municipal standards
- Registration for provincial workplace safety coverage
- Transportation costs and arrangements
- Health Care provisions
- Recruitment fees
- Terms of resignation and termination
It is expected that employers will ensure that complete and accurate records of work performed, wages paid, and other human resource records are maintained concerning their employment of a foreign national under the Live-in Caregiver Program.
Employers must provide their foreign live-in caregivers with signed documentation clearly identifying any regular and overtime hours worked. This is now required under new regulations that allow the caregiver to choose to count these hours toward the requirement for an application for permanent residence.
OUR POLICY
While providing the best possible match between the caregivers and our clients, it is our policy to protect the caregivers against abuse. This is a trusted service and while being concerned about the rights of our clients is important to us, we are equally concerned about the rights of the caregivers.
